Resource Information
The Public Health Promotion Resource Unit (PHPRU) provides resources to support the work of health promoters in Oxfordshire. This document is written to supplement the resources we provide and offer some ideas as to how to employ them. As well as providing some context and history for health promotion work, it will also provide tools that will help guide interventions in line with national guidance.
In the past, the PHPRU has supplied resources to NHS staff, a cohort with at least some level of health promotion and public health skill. However, public health is no longer (and arguably never was) just the responsibility of the NHS. We view any professional who interacts with the public as a potential health promoter, and therefore as a potential service user of the PHPRU.
Given these changes, there are now health promoters who will not necessarily have come across health promotion ideas and tools before, and will be looking for guidance. There are also changes occurring in the field all the time, which existing health promoters may wish to learn more about. And some users may desire a reminder of health promotion ideas and tools, despite having come across them before.
This document is intended for all health promoters, and while not exhaustive, it provides introductory information for those new to the field, and to keep knowledgeable users up to date.
